Our guild was started in 2013, with 12 attendees to our first meeting in March of that year. Our guild has grown since that time, and at present we have 25 members who come from all over Southern Oregon and Northern California.
WHO WE ARE!
The Rogue Modern Quilters (RMQ) are a fun-loving group of dedicated quilters, who come from all walks, and all stages of life, as well as all levels of quilting expertise. We welcome all levels of quilters – it makes no difference if you have years (or even decades!) of experience, or if you are just starting out on your quilting journey with your first quilt.
Worried that your style is “not modern enough” for a “Modern” guild? Please don’t be. Our members have varied interests and tastes and we have some who prefer the more traditional – which is just fine by us! If you have a love and enjoyment of quilting, fabric and creating you’ll fit in just fine with everyone! There is no judgement (and certainly no quilt police present) at our gatherings!
We have an open forum sharing of ideas, tips and experience among members. New quilters get to avail themselves of the huge combined experience of master quilters, and those who have been used to more traditional quilting designs are inspired and challenged to create quilts with a refreshingly simple modern look.
We meet the 3rd Saturday of every month in Southern Oregon. Check the calendar for each month’s meeting as we’re transitioning our meeting place.
Meetings have a “soft” start at 9:30 am. We start with a free-sew “sew-cial” time first. There’s a short business meeting at 11:30 am, then a brown bag or hosted lunch, followed by more “sew-cial” time.
Our meetings usually follow a short agenda. We’ll make announcements and discuss topics related to the guild such as ideas for guild growth and promotion, quilt challenges, future educational classes and learning opportunities, fundraising ideas and local community quilting events and news. If members have a quilt or project they have completed we have a “Show and Tell” where anyone gets to show off their work.
We welcome visitors, who may attend their first meeting free. For a donation of $5 for attendance to other meetings, visitors can avail themselves of “sew-cial” time, attend member-led classes, and join in the wonderful camaraderie that comes with sewing creatively together.
Guild dues are $25 per year, which are due at the end of April. Memberships that begin after the end of September are prorated.
The Rogue Modern Quilters Purpose is to:
- Develop and encourage the art of quilting.
- Encourage new quilters and other fiber artists interested in non-traditional and non-art fiber projects.
- Offer educational opportunities through classes, workshops and sharing of information.
- To enjoy ourselves while we sew!
Hope you can join us!
